Baby Merrick's In-Home Newborn Session
The addition of a new family member is a treasured event, one we surely want to document well. A documentary-style in-home session is perfect for preserving those early days with a newborn in the house, days that move especially fast, making the details difficult to recall.
Merrick's parents invited me into their home to do just that as they settled into family-of-five status. They were referred to me by a beloved repeat client, and I was very excited to hang out with them in their lovely Bexley home, which (side note) was very familiar to me as it once belonged to a friend of mine. I really have no words for how precious this family is, and the sense of love and connection between them rings true through the collection of photos from their session. Seeing Dad make Gumby talk to entertain the middle child, watching big sister hold her baby brother with such care, the way Mom brushed her hands through the kids' hair...it was all significant and told the story of their unique family dynamic.
With newborn sessions, I certainly spend plenty of time capturing the details of the baby, baby's space, and how he or she fits into the mix, but I also recognize that it's a transitional milestone for the other children in the family as well, and I love to give them some dedicated attention. As a parent, watching older children grow into this new role is a very sweet thing and the nuances can get a little lost in the hustle and bustle. I work to study all of the family members, with their unique emotions, personalities, and interactions, and I try to capture as much as I can about the entire picture. Please enjoy some photos from my time with Merrick and his family.
